The Polar Express, by Chris Van Allsburg (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt)
Website design and development, Flash-based Countdown Calendar application, Drupal-based CMS
Chris Van Allsburg’s classic family story, The Polar Express, is the main focus of this website. The Countdown Calendar is an “advent calendar”-style application containing downloadable documents, online games, and other content, and is completely customizable via XML — it enables itself automatically on December 1st, each day’s activity becoming available up to December 25th, and can easily be reset for the following year. The Family Traditions section allows site visitors to share stories, pictures, and video. The entire site is editable via a custom Drupal CMS.

Half-Minute Horrors: A Collection of Instant Frights from the World’s Most Astonishing Authors and Artists (HarperCollins Publishers)
Website design and development, custom Drupal-based CMS
Published in partnership with First Book, a nonprofit organization that puts new books in the hands of children from low-income families, Half-Minute Horrors is a collection of scary 30-second text and graphic stories from a long list of contributors, including Neil Gaiman, James Patterson, Margaret Atwood, Lemony Snicket, Gregory Maguire, Brad Meltzer, Michael Connelly, R.L. Stine, Joyce Carol Oates and many more! The book was edited by Susan Rich. The “Get a Glimpse” section is a slideshow-based preview of the book’s pages, and the “User Submissions” section allows site visitors to write and submit their own stories or graphics.

Y S Lee author site
Website design and development, Wordpress CMS with custom theme
Mystery novelist Y S Lee needed a site to promote her current novel, A Spy in the House, as well as two others in her Agency series, due to be published in 2010 and 2011. She has been using the site extensively as a blog, with regular news updates and image galleries. The site was built using Wordpress as a CMS.

Designed in conjunction with Gourmet magazine, this site for former NY Times editor Ruth Reichl’s latest blockbuster cookbook is a hub of information for the title, with several featured recipes from the book in text and video format.

Jason Hrivnak’s unsettling and unconventional debut novel, The Plight House, was picked up instantly by Canadian institution Pedlar Press. The site design was based on the striking jacket artwork.
